Neighbors and Newcomers of Westport

Opening Doors for Over Forty Years

Neighbors and Newcomers Activities

Book Club: Book Club meets the last Thursday of the month. Members suggest books and take turns hosting. Light refreshments are served. Open to all.

Canasta: This group meets each month, alternately afternoons and evenings, for a few hours of fun playing the card game canasta. Everyone takes a turn at hosting in their homes and providing a light meal. If you don’t know how to play the game, we would be happy to teach you.

Culinary Club: Members come together once a month to share food dishes of a pre-determined theme that they have prepared. Recipes are shared along with insight, a little history or sentiment. Gatherings are held alternately at lunchtime and the evening.

Girls Night Out: Singles, Moms, empty-nesters—everyone can use an evening of great food, drink and new friends. We typically venture to area restaurants, but occasionally try movies, crafts and even yoga! Restaurant bill (excluding cocktails) will be split evenly.

Giving Back: Special charitable collections for local agencies, helping at the Senior Center and our annual sponsorship of Operation Hope families at the holidays.

Happy Hour: We meet for a happy hour one Thursday each month at a local bar/restaurant. This casual evening is a perfect way for singles and couples to meet new friends or catch up with old friends. All are welcome.

Knit Night: Participants gather in a member’s home one evening a month to work on a handicraft project of their choice—knitting, quilting, embroidery, needlepoint or the like—and socialize.

Luncheon Club: We meet at noon, every other month at a local restaurant. It is a time to discover the local dining establishments, visit with friends and meet new friends.

Mom’s Night Out: Mom's with young children, need a night out?! We meet once a month at a restaurant for dinner/drinks. What a great way to meet other moms in town.

Walking Group: Join us two mornings a week for fresh air, exercise and conversation along Compo Beach. We meet at the cannons, weather permitting, and we can split into groups based on individual pace. Strollers welcome.

Wishing Well: We send cards to members and organise meals if needed.

Special Events: Throughout the year we’ll take advantage of special opportunities—in Westport and surrounding areas. Previous outings have included events with the Westport Historical Society, trips to local craft shows and house tours. The highlight of the year is our annual Clambake on Compo Beach.
